MCMC hosted Choir of Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge
in MCM College Hall Thursday 10 December 2015
Moon Chun Memorial College was delighted to host an open rehearsal by the Choir of Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge in MCM College Hall (W11) Thursday 10 December to a capacity audience. Students and Faculty colleagues from across UM greatly enjoyed experiencing the musical processes by which a world-class choir is produced.
The Choir included a miscellany of Christmas Music in their rehearsal, including some well-known Christmas Carols and some masterpieces by English Choral composers such as William Byrd.
The finale of their open rehearsal at MCMC was to inaugurate the newly-constructed outdoor amphitheatre in MCMC Inner Quad, with a beautiful rendition of O Little Town of Bethlehem. This followed a generously gifted performance by one of the honoured guests, Ms Xinyue Sun, a great friend of MCMC and an acknowledged Professor and professional Chinese Folk Song performer. All agreed the acoustics of the new outdoor amphitheatre were perfect to encourage many more alfresco performances in the future by MCMC students, as well as students from other RCs.
The Choir of Gonville & Caius College, University of Cambridge is one of the UK’s leading collegiate choirs, with a world-wide reputation based on its extensive touring and broadcasting, and on its highly acclaimed and imaginative CD recordings. The choir is directed by Dr Geoffrey Webber, Director of Music.
MCMC students especially enjoyed making new friends with choir members, learning about university life in Cambridge. So much so that they joined that evening’s Joint BBAM/FMBA Christmas Networking Evening at the Grand Coloane Resort to savour two further performances by the choir, which featured later that evening on the TDM TV Channel News.
MCM College would wish to extend a special note of appreciation to HSBC, Grand Coloane Resort and CN Concerts, together with UM, British Business Association of Macau and French Macau Business Association.
