MCM College: Prince Consort High Table MCM College Hall
The Prince Consort High Table was held on the evening of 14th January, 2016 in MCM College Hall. The name of the event draws references to Prince Albert; Consort to Queen Victoria; and locale of Prince Consort Road in London.
In his opening address to guests and students, MCM College Master, Prof. Kevin Thompson explained that Prince Albert’s London is home to some of the United Kingdom’s most remarkable institutions and iconic buildings:
“Royal Albert Hall, Imperial College, and the Royal College of Music are amongst those which abut Prince Consort Road”.
The RCM’s new hall of residence, Prince Consort Village, will open its doors in early 2016, providing high-quality accommodation for around 400 students. In respect to our first 2016 High Table guests, Prince Consort made a fitting title for this special occasion.
After Prof. Thompson recounted “a précis of MCM College’s progress”, highlighting key accomplishments during Michaelmas, he congratulated Caroline Wilson, British Consul General to Hong Kong and Macao. “Her honour is so richly deserved”, he said, “and also a just cause for a collective celebration, as she becomes a Companion of the Order of St Mark and St George, for services to British foreign policy”.
The evening’s sublime music was generously provided by the one of the world’s most acclaimed Conservatoires, The Royal College of Music, its Director, Professor Colin Lawson (clarinet), its International Chair of Piano, Professor Vanessa Latarche, and joined by Michael Kirby, Principal Clarinet Macao Orchestra. The RCM’s Deputy Director Kevin Porter, was also present along with Dr. Alain Le Pichon, Historian, Sorbonne, Oxford and Eton College, and Eileen Stow, Lord Stow’s and formerly working in UK’s Music Business and based in London.
In short, it has then been a gratifying period for the College, with solid commitment, collaboration and enthusiasm from all member of UM’s RC System, Student Affairs, Sports and Faculty to MCM College colleagues. This collective collaboration exemplifies that “No one should be on the outside looking in”.
